What is distance education?

Distance education is the means in which a teaching institution provides education to students that may be remote from the institution. It allows the institution to offer is services to anyone with an Internet connection, and the student may never have to set foot onto a campus. Students can interact with an instructor via either a virtual classroom or email. Many colleges and universities offer a web based service that acts as a virtual classroom. This service allows for the interaction and communication between student and instructor, and most times even allows students to interact with each other. Such things as study groups, chat sessions, and group projects can usually be completed entirely online.

FAQ

Is distance education right for me?

That question can only be answered by you. Distance education is an excellent means of obtaining an education while still maintaining a lifestyle that you have become accustomed to. Most people find that they simply cannot afford to take time from work to pursue further education. Through online college university programs, these individuals are able to manage not only their current employment, but also a healthy home life, all while gaining the education and experience needed to advance their careers.

Participation in the accreditation process is voluntary; no school is required to become accredited, however, a lack of accreditation could mean a lack of federal funding and financial aid opportunities. Accreditation also brings a sense of legitimacy to an institution; those who are accredited are held in higher esteem than those who are not. Therefore, it is highly desirable to obtain accreditation from one of the regional institutions.

While we believe that online education can be the answer to many problems that working individuals face when seeking education advancement, we also encourage you to evaluate yourself to make sure you are right for distance education. Distance education requires a person to be self disciplined and motivated. A student must be able to set their own study schedule and to stay with that schedule. Since there is no classroom schedule, some people do not have the will power needed to set their own schedule.

What types of programs and classes are available online?

There are so many online courses available, it is impossible for anyone to list them all in one place. Each day, more and more colleges are providing even more avenues for you to obtain a degree or education through online classes and degree programs. The most important thing for you to remember is that while there may be many places that claim to offer online education, only an accredited college or university is guaranteed to have passed the guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Education. Here at RNDegrees.net, all of our colleges and universities have met those guidelines and have been accredited.

Do I need any previous experience or education to take an online degree or certification program?

That can only be determined by the course you are perusing and the college that offers it. While many courses require some level of previous higher education, there are a great deal that require no previous education or experience. Many courses can be offered entirely online. The best way to find out the requirements for your specific field of interest is to locate the colleges or universities that offer that course, and request their free information about the course. Colleges and universities vary in their requirements, so it is important to make contact with several to find out the one that is right for you.

Can I request information from several schools?

Absolutely!! We encourage you to request information from EVERY school that may possibly provide information about the course of study you are interested in. Not only does this give you several course options to choose from, but it also allows you to see the differences in distance education that a variety of colleges or universities may offer. You would not buy a car without finding the best deal for your money would you? Your education is important, so make sure you give yourself the very best that is available.

What is a degree mill?

Degree mills are individuals or entities that have declared themselves as a college or university, but rather than provide an actual education, they simply provide fake college degrees or certifications for a cost.

Although they have been around for many years, only with the advent of online education have these persons began to flourish. They prey on individuals that do not properly educate themselves before entering into an agreement with them. Sometimes, they do not even offer actual course study, but simply ask for a fee and in return send a piece of paper that states you now have a degree.

How can I identify a degree mill?

Identifying one of these bogus institutions can be done by simply educating yourself. Request information from the institution before agreeing to anything, and then do some basic background checking on a particular institution. Make sure they are accredited through the U.S. Department of Education, as well as have an established history of providing a legitimate educational service.
