Online LPN-to-RN Program: Some Little Known Perks

When Shonelle Williams decided to take the online LPN-to-RN degree program, she thought she'd heard all the benefits. Convenience, flexibility, affordability--what more would she want from an online program? But at the end of her first semester, she says, "I realized there were some additional perks that I hadn't anticipated!"
Here are three of Shonelle's favorite little-known perks to online learning:
1. Up-to-the-Minute Materials
Have you ever paged through a textbook stuffed with loose-leaf corrections and addendums? Or referred to a handout only to find that the information was out of date? Nursing is a dynamic and constantly changing field. Online nursing programs offers students the most timely and accurate information, and you don't have to worry about sorting your files and notes. Shonelle says, "Every time my professor updated the online course materials, she archived the old info and specified the date of the new info. This made it really easy to keep current with health care trends."
The same concept applies to administrative materials, such as calendars and announcements. "Schedule changes were automated to go out as emails, so I didn't even have to log into the site," says Shonelle. "If an exam or paper deadline shifted I knew about it straight away."
2. Multiple Delivery Methods
Online programs often present information through several different mediums simultaneously. Accessing material through various learning channels helps reinforce your understanding. It also lets you choose your optimum learning style or switch between various delivery methods to suit your convenience.
For example, one of Shonelle's instructors posted special guest lectures on a weekly basis. "I could either watch the lecture in HD video on my desktop, or download the pdf and read the transcript," recalls Shonelle. "Audio-only files were available too, if you didn't have the bandwidth for video."
3. Instant Feedback
For busy LPNs, the instant feedback of an online course is a huge plus. Online gradebooks let you check your current standing and ensure no surprises at the end of semesters. Interactive quizzes can be taken over and over again until you've mastered the knowledge.
"I didn't have to guess about which areas I was still shaky in," says Shonelle. "The online tools kept track of which readings I'd accessed and what scores I'd gotten on tests. I could even pull up a comparison chart that showed how much time I'd spent in the different components of the course."
Online Learning: You'll Never Go Back
Shonelle was initially attracted to online nursing programs because she didn't have the time to attend classes at her local brick-and-mortar nursing school. The unexpected perks of up-to-date materials, multiple delivery channels and instant feedback made her educational journey even easier than she expected. "It was surprisingly painless!" she says. "Once I have a couple years experience as an RN, I will probably go for my BSN degree or maybe do an RN-to-MSN program. Definitely, those will be online programs!"
The online LPN to RN program is NLNAC accredited and also regionally (Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools) accredited as well. This means it's the same degree your local campus based nursing school offers, but unlike your local nursing school, there's NO WAITING LIST with the online LPN to RN program, and with the online nursng program you never even have to sit in a classroom so you can keep your job while you earn your RN degree at your own pace! Why not look into the program and get started on your way to becoming an RN too?
