July 4th - Special Thoughts For Military Nurses

RnDegrees.net was (officially) founded in order to provide education resources and career information that address the expanding educational needs of the nursing profession. The primary focus of the site is to allow working nurses the ability to pursue advanced nursing and related health career studies at home with minimal interruption of work or family responsibilities. True enough, but there's more to this site than that...
RnDegrees.net was started and is run by a disabled Army Nurse who found that the site allowed a platform to keep a hand in nursing despite her physical "disability". Having this site allowed her to go from being a silenced "disabled nurse" to being an "enabled nurse" again; to go from "silence to voice" once more, and to have an active part in trying to help encourage folks to consider nursing as a career choice.
"Sara is a strong, compassionate nurse with the drive to help others become great nurses too. She writes well and brings a wealth of information and experience to her readers in a voice that is authoritative, and knowledgeable, yet sensitive and warm." December 6, 2009 Kathy Quan , author/ blogger , The Nursing Site and Nursing Site Blog
None of that would be possible for me without this site, the support of all of you, and the ability to have this platform for my "nursing voice", so I thank all of you for coming to RnDegrees.net, for using the site, sharing it with friends, and for following my blog and Twitter posts. The most traumatic thing I've ever experienced was when Col. Johnson, the chief of nursing stopped by after my spinal surgery to ask "what will you do now that you can't do nursing anymore"? Now, you've gotta know that worried and depressed me! I had four children of my late husband's and one of my own to support at the time. Good question indeed. What does a nurse do when she can't physically do clinical nursing any longer?
Nursing is an exciting, challenging, and dynamic profession with limitless opportunities.
Where there's a will there's a way when you're a nurse! No matter what happens in your life, whether it be physical impairment, or a bad economy, there's a way to use your nursing knowledge, expertise, experiences, and skills to adapt and carry on. If you can't find a hospital job you could become a Legal Nurse Consultant, further your education and become a Nurse Practitioner, or think way outside the box and become a writer or website publisher. Nursing offers endless possibilities - and nurses are survivors!
Thoughts For My Brothers & Sisters in Military Healthcare This July 4th
Today I'd like to ask everyone reading this post to spend a moment or two giving thanks for the military nurses, paraprofessionals, and medics who risk everything in order to "Conserve the Fighting Strength", especially those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Whatever your politics, or thoughts about the wars, please remember that these dedicated nurses and medics put their lives on the line day in and day out, often working in extreme conditions at times in order to save lives. Please pray for their safe and swift return home.
During my own long journey home through the evac system, and finally spending many months stuck in military hospitals away from my family, this song sustained me and carried me through until I finally came home, so I want to share it with all of the military nurses and medics who may read today's post. Thank you for all that you do, and please come home safely.
You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism. ~Erma Bombeck
Have a good 4th of July everyone!
